Artist Bio

Gautam Bansal is a Bengaluru-based artist whose creative journey spans over two decades of working with charcoal. His works—often quiet, yet deeply evocative—have been featured in premier art festivals including the India Art Festival and Mumbai Art Fair, and are part of notable private collections across India and abroad. Some of his pieces have been curated by prominent public figures and showcased at exclusive events, with his practice also being featured in The Hindu and other renowned publications.Gautamʼs presence in over thirty-five exhibitions, along with continued recognition through awards and features, reflects an artist committed to steady growth and expressive depth. His practice explores the balance between stillness and motion, clarity and blur, vulnerability and strength. He has presented solo exhibitions at Sublime Galleria, UB City Mall, Bengaluru, and at the JW Marriott Bengaluru Prestige Golfshire Resort & Spa, Devanahalli, marking significant milestones in his artistic journey. As a guest faculty at a school for autism, he conducts weekly charcoal workshops, offering art as a language of connection and self-expression.

Artist Statement

Over time, my work with charcoal has evolved around a central curiosity: the invisible forces that animate life and movement.When we watch a galloping horse, a dancer in motion, or waves rising in the sea, we are not only witnessing form—we are witnessing energy. There is always a force building before movement begins, the release of that force during motion and the subtle traces that remain after it has passed. Many of my works explore this threshold where stillness transforms into motion.Animals, dancers and elements of nature appear frequently in my work because they reveal this energy so vividly. A horse carries instinct and momentum, a dancer transforms rhythm into visible motion, and storms or waves express the powerful unseen currents shaping the natural world.Charcoal, with its raw and responsive nature, allows me to capture these forces directly. Each stroke becomes a gesture of movement; each smudge holds the trace of energy passing through the surface.Across the works in this catalogue, three interconnected energies emerge: Instinct, Rhythm and Flow—forces that move bodies, shape landscapes and quietly connect all living things.
